Swayambhunath is one of the old religious places in Nepal. It is one of the holy places in Kathmandu Valley. This place is lofty white arch ceiling and sparkling golden spire which are visible from distance across the valley. We can also see the stone writing which gives the proof that the stupa is one of the destinations for Buddhist pilgrimage.
The term Swayambhu refers to the “Self- Existence”. It is believed that there was a lake in this valley. Manjushri cut the deep narrow valley in the mountains surrounding the lake. After water draining away, present Kathmandu valley was formed. The lotus was then transformed into a hill and the light became the Swayabhunath Stupa which become accessible to the human devotee. The people like Hindus, Buddhists and Newari Buddhists worship this place. On each side of this stupa we can see pair of eyes which is the symbol of God seeing all perspectives. On the top of this hill we can also view the temples and see the beautiful valley from the top. This place has high religious values.
Swayambhunath is also popularly as Monkey Temple because various monkeys rush around the temples at night after the pilgrims and priests have gone. Similarly, it is one of the tourist’s destination place specially for people who follow Buddhism. People having high religious values visits here. We can see numbers of visitors every year and probably every day. Various rituals are perform every day. Even more , it is a silent place where we can see the traditional Buddhists religious and belief. Similarly, we can also visit the hills near the Swayambhu hill which includes Boudhanath Stupa, Dakshinkali temple, Budhanilkhantha and many mores.
